🌿 NAILS IN FOLKLORE 🌿

Are you using nails in your craft?
The use of nails has a long tradition in witchcraft because of their fixative power and the ability to bind one thing to another for good or bane.

People believed iron had magical, protective and healing powers. And especially the blacksmith was seen as a person surrounded by mystery and magic because he worked with iron on a daily basis.

Traditionally, nails were often driven into trees in Germany and left to rust as a way of curing human or animal illnesses. It was said that the illness would disappear as the nail rusted.
Nails were also put under the threshold of the front door for protection and good luck or under the bed of midwifes or little children to protect them.

And as you already know nails were an important ingredient to witch bottles. There are much more customs about nails all across Europe and its very interesting to research them.

In my practice I often use them for carvings in candle magic and banishing rituals.

If you are interested I add some hand forged nails to my shop for your magical purposes.
