Folklore Of The Snowdrop

There are a lot of customs and beliefs about this little brave flower that is the first flower which is showing up in January /February.

An old, now almost forgotten custom: on 2 February, Candlemas Day, snowdrops were scattered on the altar in church as a symbol of purity and the approach of spring - hence the name "Candlemas bells".

✨ One should wipe one's eyes with the first snowdrop one sees in spring; then they will not get sick the whole year, and if they are sick, they will get well. (Attention : ☠ poison plant)

✨ It is said that snowdrops must not be brought into the house, they are regarded (because of the white colour of the flowers) as harbingers of death

✨Snowdrops cause the milk of the cows to become watery

✨ Snowdrops cause the young chickens not to be hatched

✨ Back in the day farmers dig up the bulbs of the snowdrops and give them to the cows so that the sorceresses do not take away their milk.
